2008 Parade Policy
Dear Parade Applicant:
In an effort to be proactive regarding an important safety issue, the
Frontier Days Committee has adopted “zero tolerance” policy prohibiting
parade participants from distributing anything along the Frontier Days
Parade route. This includes, but is not limited to, candy, beverages,
printed material, or any other food products.
After reviewing previous Frontier Days Parade films, the Committee noted
numerous incidents which could have resulted in serious injuries involving
children running into the street near parade vehicles. Previous attempts
at policies to regulate the distribution of items on the parade route have
failed. The children continue to run into the street to obtain candy and
other distributed materials.
We believe, and know you will agree, that the children of our community
are our greatest asset. The Frontier Days Committee, bearing the position
of ultimate responsibility, cannot and will not put the children of this
community in harm’s way.
As an alternative there will be a staging area on the Frontier Days
festival grounds for parade participants to distribute candy or other
materials to promote your business or cause.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this policy may cause but, we hope you
will agree if this prevents one child from being injured in the future it
is well worth it.
Sincerely,
Ron Burke
Ron Burke, Parade Chairman
